Note: For any Stump that is possible near underground utilities, BGE “Miss Utility” must be contacted prior to the starting of the job. Shrub CareWe at Coleman’s Tree Service offer a variety of Shrub Care services ranging from Trimming, Removal and Select Pruning. Often times large overgrown shrubs that are in front of houses hide the “Curb Appeal” of the house, and when removed and replaced with low growing shrubs (and plants) the house and property usually stands out very nicely.
Certain shrubs (such as Yews and Evergreens) can be sheared or trimmed to be formal or pruned as other shrubs, leaving that natural effect to your properties landscape. Anytime shrubs are trimmed formally, it is essential to also do a select pruning to allow light into the shrub for healthier growth, (also removing dead wood). We at Coleman’s Tree Service take special care when pruning or trimming your shrubs to your specifications. Cabling and BracingTrees growing in wooded areas are usually not a threat to people or structures. Trees that are close to houses or other buildings need to be maintained to keep them structurally sound. If branches or tree trunks need additional support, we at Coleman’s Tree Service can install Cables or bracing rods. If cables or braces are installed, they will need to be inspected on a yearly basis. We at Coleman’s Tree Service will at no extra cost provide a yearly inspection of your cables or bracing work that we have installed, upon request.
FirewoodColeman's Tree Service sells split and seasoned firewood. We sell mixed hardwoods as well as all Oak and All locust upon availability. For best quality it is good to buy your firewood early in the year. We sell firewood by the cord & also 1/2 cords delivered & dumped directly to your home or business.
RepurposingWaste not, want not! Because we are eco-friendly, we always seek to repurpose any remains of our work. When we grind stumps we also offer removing the stump grinding chips, and back filling the area with top soil and sowing grass seed.

PruningPruning is the most common tree maintenance procedure. Trees that grow in the forest grow quite well with only natures pruning. This is due to their richness in soil and a natural mycorrhizae which is the root hair fibers that extend beyond the roots of the trees.
Landscape trees require a higher level of care and pruning to maintain their safety, health and esthetics. Pruning should be done properly with an understanding of how the tree responds to each cut as well as which branches need to be removed. Common reasons for pruning are to remove dead branches, to remove crowed or rubbing limbs, and to eliminate any hazards. Trees may also be pruned to increase light and air penetration to the inside of the trees canopy, or to the landscape below. Proper pruning also allows for wind resistance which lessons the chance for any storm damage to your trees and property. To much (or over) pruning of trees can add stress to trees as the tree's canopy should maintain a healthy balance to it's roots as well. Also, thinning the crown of trees can reduce a tree's food making capability and may stress the tree further. We at Coleman's Tree Service take pride and integrity to offer your trees careful pruning practices. Pruning vs. ToppingProper pruning is essential in maintaining good health and length of years to trees on your property and landscape. Topping trees or cutting back your trees to look like a hat rack, or rounding over is perhaps the most harmful tree pruning practice known. Yet more than 25 years of literature and seminars explaining it's harmful effects, topping remains a common practice. Trees are meant to be trees, natural looking and not to be as shrubs. If a tree is too large, then proper drop crouching methods can in most cases be used for height reduction.
Topping trees causes decay which weakens the tree's structure. Cuts made along a limb between lateral branches create stubs with wounds that the tree may not be able to close. The exposed wood tissues begins to decay. A proper pruning cut will wound over or heal itself in a way that will maintain strength in the wood structure. When Topping trees the decay organisms are given a free pathway to move down through the branches. This weakens the tree and in many cases can kill the tree. Cutting back or Topping causes a tree to produce multiple shoots below each topping cut and comes at a great expense to the tree and always lessons the life span of the tree. When the shoots grow out they are considered very weak branches and grow back in some cases as much as 20 feet in one year. These branches are unfortunately prone to breaking, and can be a major liability (in cases of storm damage). Pruning is the most common tree maintenance procedure. Crane ServiceIn most cases the use of a crane when removing a tree is a lot more efficient than conventional rope lowering methods. A crane removal saves much time in completing the job and in some cases can even be a safer procedure. The use of a crane does come at an extra charge however, the time it takes to remove a large tree in a difficult area balances the time it takes for a climber to be used in the tree with rope lowering devices.
